Richard and Kathy Verlander are, above all, parents. They would be the first to tell you it’s the little things -- like coaching their sons Justin and Ben’s Little League teams, being team mother, working concession stands, and marking score sheets -- that really matter. Given the number of hours they have devoted to gathering balls, bats, caps, and gloves, it’s no surprise they have been honored as Little League Parents of the Year. But even more meaningful to them is the reward of raising positive role models whose impact will influence generations to come. When not traveling to catch one of their boys’ ballgames or speaking to groups about their experiences, Richard and Kathy enjoy relaxing at home in Goochland County, Virginia.
